Round five of the RDH Auctions sponsored National Twinshock Championships was at Warmingham Lane, last weekend hosted by the Cumbria Twinshock Club, for the now annual double header. It was a real party weekend and there was a tremendous turnout of riders, and apart from a few nasty injuries the event ran like clockwork. As usual the track was graded to perfection and the weeks rain made it just right on the Saturday, but on Sunday the fine drizzle made the early going treacherous, but by the end of play the track dried out and made for some great racing.

Andy Holland took control of the MD Racing Over 50’s class with three wins on the Saturday, but a couple of mishaps on the Sunday gave the overall victory to Martin Snape on his ‘Maico Only’ 490. Snape took five seconds and a third, and although Holland took the final encounter to take his tally of wins to four, it left him in second place. Terry Connor took the race five win and other consistent rides gave him third overall from Stuart Miller.

In the MD Racing Over 60’s it was championship leader Maurice Wharton who came out on top with four wins over the weekend, and was only headed by Jack McEwan, who only raced on Sunday with two race wins. Bill Browns four seconds gave him the runner up berth from Alan Deer in third.

Gary Parker dominated the Wulfsport Experts with five wins out of six to take top spot, with Howard Standfield taking second with a win and four seconds. Reigning Champion Roy Wells rode consistently to take third overall, from Alan Eaves and Matt Murphy. Unfortunately Championship leader going into this round Wayne Butt suffered a broken leg in the second encounter and took no further part in the racing.

Lee Holland, now fully recovered from his wrist injury, dominated the Toughsheet Recycling 125’s with four wins from Sean McCrea who had two wins. McCrea valiantly pushed his machine home in race five to gather nine points in his quest for the title. Wayne Twidle finished top three all weekend to take third position, with Dave Ellis fourth.

Mick Armstrong was the man to beat in the Falcon Shocks 250 class, forcing his little Suzuki to the win in five races out of six, and gave his title chance a real boost. Tom Holland was on his case all weekend and eventually took one win, as was John Littler and Richard Wood. Pat Winter had his best result to date with fourth overall.

In the CI Sport Intermediate class it turned out to be a two way battle between Chris Woodward and Dan Evans, with Woodward easing away to four victories to Evans two. Lee Jackson, just back from injury had some terrific rides storming through the field to take third overall, from Steve Griffiths. Jem Parker had four top three rides on the Marsh HPF Honda but two DNF’s put paid to his chances of a top three overall.

Gary Parker absolutely blitzed the opposition in the Cheshire County Crossers Vets class with six out of six race wins, which left the others to fight over the scraps. Alan Eaves took second, after some great battles with Lee Davies and Steve Ward, and Mick Kendall was unlucky not to finish higher than sixth after a second and a fourth. Mick De Feu was only out on the Sunday but had two fourths and a third.

Lloyd Griffiths lead the charge in the full line up of LPE Clubman riders, taking four wins, with Mark Russell who won the final leg taking second overall. Charlie Kelly also had a solitary victory which helped him tale third overall from local rider Dom Bratt in fourth. Best wishes to Mark Burrows who also broke a leg in race five.

The final class of the weekend was the Motolink Yamaha Evolutions and once again there was one rider in a class of his own and this was reigning champion Roy Wells who had a perfect six out of six. Trailing in his wake were Howard Standfield in second, although he did push Roy all the way in race six. Paul Coward took third, which could have been better had he not had a flat rear in race three. A new rider in this class was Emerson Jones who took a fine fourth over the weekend, and special mention goes to Tom Marsh whose consistent top ten finishes gave him the CNR Burrows Haulage Rider of the Meeting award.

The next round of the championship is at Long Compton, Chipping Norton on August 8.
