The third round of the RDH Auctions sponsored National Twinshock Championships was hosted by the South West Twinshock Club on Sunday at Wrangway in Somerset. The Club defied the odds when overnight rain turned the brilliant track into a sticky mess for first practice, but were supported by well over 200 riders. The steep hill sided track proved passable for all but a few, and after the first block of racing the two valley sections were cut, giving a shorter but more manageable lap. After the interval the sun came out and the club managed to complete the programme, much to the credit of the club and their band of helpers.

As usual the MD Racing Over 50’s were first to negotiate the testing circuit, and it was local rider Steve Adams who lead  races one and two, before disappearing in the mud which left Andy Holland to take both hard fought wins from Brian Littler and Martin Snape. In race three reigning champion Snape led from start to finish but it was Hollands second place which gave him the overall from Snape and Littler.

Maurice Wharton took full advantage of championship leader Jack McEwans absence in the MD Racing Over 60’s, with three clear cut victories from another local Alan Deer and Ray Hartill.

There was a full line up of top names in the Wulfsport Top 20 Experts, with Wayne Butt leading race one until Jason Fraser sneaked past on lap four taking the win from Butt, Kristian Marshall Matt Murphy and Gary Parker. Race two was taken by Howard Standfield, who failed to finish race one, from Fraser, Butt and Alan Eaves. Standfield completed a great comeback by taking leg three from Butt, Murphy and Fraser, and it was Frasers fourth place which gave him the overall on the day from Butt by a solitary point.

In the Toughsheet Recycling 125’s Sean McCrea continues to dominate with another flawless display in taking all three race wins, with his only serious challenger John Davis second and consistent riding from Dave Ellis taking third.

Series sponsor Richard Wood from RDH was just as convincing in the Falcon Shocks 250 class with another clean sweep and three victories, doing his championship position no harm. Tom Holland took second overall with top six finishes from the second round winner Mick Armstrong and John Littler, who took two seconds but bit the dust in race one.

Llanellis Dan Evans took the spoils in the CI Sport Intermediate class with two victories and a second, from second race winner Chris Woodward. Mark Connole had his best result to date with third overall, as did Steve Ryan in fourth.

There was some excellent battles between Gary Parker and Steve Ward in the Cheshire County Crossers Veterans class, with Parker taking all three legs from Ward. Phil Daley just got the better of Mick Kendall to take the final podium position.

In the LPE Clubman class there were three different winners, with Luke Rees taking his first ever race win in leg one from Paul Kelly and Roy Statham. Race two went to Lloyd Griffiths from Paul Bailey and Kelly. In the final encounter Statham held off a strong challenge from Kelly and Griffiths. This meant that Kelly took the overall from Griffiths, with Griffiths deservedly taking the CNR Burrows Transport Rider of the Day award.

Derek Read had a fantastic day in the Motolink Yamaha Evolution class, taking the overall with two wins and a second, from second race winner Richard Chinn. Roy Wells battling with a bad back rode through the pain barrier to take third overall.

The final class of the day was Robbie Savilles Partridge Ventilation Pre-83  125’s championship which as usual had a full line up and had some amazing racing . Reigning champion Steve Ruddock on his Kawasaki came out on top with two race wins, although Lance Marshall did manage to take the third race. Alix Foreman and Warren Berthiaume swapped places throughout, with Foreman just edging it. Colby Walker was also in the thick of it, and ended in fourth overall in front of Marshall.

Round four hosted by the Cumbria Twinshock Club takes place on May 30 at Bassenthwaite, Keswick.
