The second round of the RDH Motorhomes sponsored National Twinshock Championships took place on Sunday at Stipers Hill, Polesworth, hosted by the Polesworth Twinshock Club. Once more riders arrived on the Saturday to bright sunshine and a track that had been extensively graded with one or two alterations from the hard working club members. However Sunday was somewhat overcast and dust was kept to a minimum until late in the day when water was used on the start and downhill sections.
Racing started early with the MD Racing Over 50’s, and it was former World Champion Graham Noyce who holeshot from the evergreen Pete Mathia, but on the second lap the pair clashed with Noyce going down, leaving Math to coast home for the first of three victories. Pete Lightfoot advanced from a first lap eighth to take the runner up spot on the final lap with Martin Snape third. With Noyce suffering jetting problems in the final two races the overall mirrored the first race result with Mathia victorious for the second round running from Lightfoot and Snape.
Overcoming his jetlag from his trip to America with Noyce, Dennis Slythe took the Over 60’s from Michael May.
There were some great battles in the Wulfsport Masters, as Roy Wells reigned supreme with three start to finish victories, although he was chased hard in the first leg by Howard Standfield and Brad Nixon. In the second and third races Mark Silvester got close without threatening, and it was great to see Carl Lillywhite challenging and finishing top five all day on his Armstrong. At the end it was Howard Standfield who took the runner up overall to Wells, from Alan Eaves in third by a point from Silvester.
The CI Sport Intermediates class is wide open this year, and on Sunday had three different winners, none of whom took the overall result. In race one it was Carl Hodgson who carried on where he left off at the first round, to take victory from Ivor Gilford and Robin Cowgill. Race two went to Matt Murphy from Gilford and Cowgill, whilst the decider went to Ian Nott, but second place for Cowgill gave him the overall from Gilford on best final race position.
There were some new names in the Toughsheet Recycling 125 class, and some cracking action.
Brad Nixon was unlucky not to take the overall after scorching to two race victories on his Cagiva, before it cried enough, which left Lee Holland to take the spoils with three second places on his Yamaha. RDH Teamster John Davis fared better this week taking the final race win and second overall on the day.
The Falcon Shocks 250 class was a tight affair with four riders battling it out at the front all day. Aaron Jordan eventually secured the first race victory after passing Richard Wood on the final lap. Andy Holland did the same in race two passing both Wood and Chris Whittle on the final tour. Jordan repeated the pass on Wood in the final encounter again making his move late and secure the overall from Wood and Holland. Andy Hollands persistence in race two coupled with his performance in the Vets deservedly landed him the Burrows Haulage Rider of The Meeting award.
In the packed Cheshire County Crossers Veterans class, Gary Parkers 89 Kwacker did it once more taking the first two races, and was only beaten in the final race by Mark Silvester who is finally warming to the four stroke Yamaha. Alan Eaves chased the pair home in all three races, with Phil Daley fourth.
Once more the LPE Clubman class had a full line up, and it was first race winner Chris Anderton who took the overall, despite Mark Jordan winning races two and three. Trevor Guy rode consistently to take the final podium position.
As at round one it was Gary Parker who appears to have the edge in this years Motolink Yamaha Evolution class, and he ended the day with three excellent start to finish victories. Roy Wells chased him home in races one and two, with Richard Chinn and Brad Nixon having a go in the final leg.
